PATRICK HAZELL Technical Requirements for solo performance:
Two different equipment set-ups are possible, each with different requirements:
Set-up #1 --the accoustic piano set-up
a) Tuned piano (preferably a Yamaha model P-22 studio upright, or equivalent--or better). Piano must be tuned to A440
b) PA system --depending on the size of the venue. It is not required for small venues (i.e. school assembly halls, classrooms, or a coffehouse-type setting). Patrick Hazell provides his own amplifier for the harmonica unless the venue is outside his normal driving range, i.e. requiring transportation other than car or truck (overseas, outside the midwest USA, etc.)
c) Lighting and staging suitable to the venue.
d) Set-up time if the piano and PA are already in place generally takes no more than 30 minutes--usually about 15. Tear-down afterwards is the same. If possible it is best to be able to set-up equipment sometime before the show so as to allow time for putting on stage clothes, etc.--one or two hours before the concert is ideal, but if time is a premium, this set-up can occur very quickly---ideal for venues in which several artists are on the bill.
Set-up #2 --the electric one-man-band set-up
a) All music, sound, and light equipment is provided by Patrick Hazell
b) An 11'x 11' level area is needed for the equipment set-up. Ideally the performance area should be on the same plane as the audience and not on a stage. It is best if the audience can be seated around the Patrick Hazell so that he can be best seen from the sides. For outdoor events, a 15'x15' tent will be needed as insurance against rain and sun.(note: 10'x10' pop-up tents are too small).
c) Clear access to the performance area before and immediately after the engagement for equipment unloading and loading. Ideally the equipment truck should be able to be backed directly to the staging area and allowed to be parked in the immediate vicinity during the event If the venue has any steps to be climbed or descended, two or three extra people will need to be enlisted to help before and after the performance. Long hallways will necessitate a large four-wheeled cart.
d) Equipment needs to be set up a minimum of two and one-half hours before the concert. It will take at least one and one-half hours for the equipment tear-down after the performance.
